Where Have All The Sailboats Gone?

When we got to Hampton, VA, on Nov 4, the marina was full of cruisers, all sporting burgees of their favorite yacht organizations and many sporting Salty Dawg Rally burgees. There were nightly weather meetings in a big white tent by the marina and lots of activity in the bar above. One by one, starting last Wednesday, they all began to depart. Slipping silently from their slips with only a small growl from their engines, the yachts departed. Most were larger than Northern Lights - 50+ footers with equipment hanging all over - but we fit in. Neala left for a week in Erie and I busied myself doing projects on the boat. Lots to do, and I also had conference calls to keep.

Here's a few shots from the week:

Crew of San Picaro that weathered the first part of Caribbean 1500 and turned back in a gale. Kudos to Jim, Ian, Paul and Tammy. See you all down south.
Evening aboard Greg & Joan Connover's boat. A Morgan 51 with lots of room below decks to hang out.
Cleaned up the new, improved, cell phone repeater installation
Docks are empty now. Well, only power boats but they don't count
 Like I said
Spent the morning replacing the impeller on the *&^* Fischer Panda generator. Bloody Hell, but I did not drop any parts (4 little lock washers and 4 little wing nuts) in the bilge!
See, I got the old impeller out. It was in perfect condition and the whole procedure was a hella waste of time!

Did not post pictures of the anchor locker improvements, new washdown pump, Volvo servicing etc. but you don't really care do you?

Ready to head south once Neala returns from Erie and I finish my big Wednesday conference call introducing our MiHIN Provider Directory to the rest of the world.

  1. I love the photos and especially ones of my friend :) Surely she spices up the journey although Sandy was some competition recently! Delray is calling you two and lets hope for warm weather when you get there. Northern Lights looks beautiful. The log is really a memento to look back on but I'm sure there will be many more journey's to be blogging about if Neala has it her way! I think my fresh water friend now has the salt water bug and she's where she belongs! Warm hugs to both of you and looking forward to seeing you both in Florida.
