Enjoying Our Last Day in Annapolis

We woke up and went for an early walk in Annapolis in search of coffee. Found a Starbucks in the basement of the historic Maryland Inn. Wow, what a place! Seemed more like a Rathskeller jazz room than a Starbucks. Old stone walls, comfy leather furniture and huge beamed ceilings gave it an ancient ambiance one might expect to find somewhere in Europe.

And, it is interesting to note, we learned that Annapolis was the earliest seat of the US government and that it was from here in 1783 the General George Washington resigned his commission before the Continental Congress and in 1786 that the Annapolis Convention issued the call to the states that led to the Constitutional Convention. A lot of history here in Annapolis, the US Naval Academy being only one well-known part.

Our last evening was spent with Ted & Shirl at Phillip's Seafood on the Annapolis harbor. Heather, our native Annapolitan server, demonstrated the proper Maryland Blue Crab cracking and picking techniques. Then we had a go of it ourselves. The brown paper tablecloth, trashcan  and roll of paper towels at each table should have been our first clue!

Heather demonstrating crab dissection. "Don't eat the lungs, they will make you sick", and "eating the mustard is up to you!"
Eating crab has a low ROI but they sure were good!
